Annie Brandywine-Casteel was the wife of Toby Casteel and mother to Luke Casteel and four other sons who are in prison. As well as step-grandmother to Heaven and true grandmother to Tom, Fanny, Keith and Jane, she is also the great-grandmother of Darcy Wise and Luke Casteel Jr.

Annie wakes Heaven up on her 10th birthday and takes her to the crematory to show her the grave of her real mother, Leigh Vanvoreen. Struggling with arthritis, she still helped her daugher-in-law and step-granddaughter Heaven with choirs and eventually dies of heart failure when Sarah's stillborn is born.
